🐸🗡️♟️Happy Anne-iversary to Amphibia, 5 years since that show premiered, it's just insane.
The show's incredible, it captures both humor and heart well, along with amazing characters and pretty animation.
Thank you Matt for making this show, this and The Owl House will to be talked about for future generations to come.🗡️♟️🐸

Hello Amphibia fandom!
Go check out my fic on ao3, “What Makes Its Way Back to You”!
Set three years after the show ends, Anne and Sprig struggle to move on and desperately search for a way to be reunited. Sasha and Marcy are still traumatized by their actions while they were in Amphibia and work to move past the hurt and guilt that they carry with them. Meanwhile, Amphibia’s under new management, and people in both worlds try to move forward after forever being changed by the other.

This is so true!
And not only that, but the poor storytelling is why (in my unpopular opinion) I find the cast of Amphibia characters, some of the most painfully wasted characters I've ever seen.
This isn't me saying that I hate the characters, no far from it, I like the majority of them (yes even the side and minor characters). The main trio is great, the Plantars are great, wartwood folks I find some of them good and some of them average, the toads aside from Grime are kinda meh, Yunnan and Olivia are a riot, and Andrias I'd say is a decent villain, and so on. So no I don't hate them for who they are and what their personalities are like, what I don't like is what the writers did with them especially with side characters.
Their screentime, story arcs, development, everything, some say they're passible I just find them rushed or not developed enough, not to mention basically screaming wasted potential. So much so that even when a side character gets somewhat interesting, it feels like the amphibia crew only looked at a book of 'what to do with a NOT main character' and then made that character do something in a single episode. I just don't see any interest or care given to the side characters of Amphibia, just an excuse to have a huge roster of characters, a huge world that doesn't feel empty, and a bunch of talented voice actors who are also equally wasted.
And with episodes like 'Maddie & Marcy' and 'Sprivy' I don't even agree that they're just making characters that you would only see once or twice and then in the background, look at Ivy and Maddie, two fan-favorite characters I'm amazed managed to appear in an episode beyond s1
Again, I don't hate the characters, but I feel like more could be done with some of them. And I hope to god that if the Amphibia spinoff series ever happened, they better get the love they deserve!
The problem with Amphibia is that the show wants us to see the girls as the Calamity TRIO, a trifecta, a three-way conflict where each person is equally compelling, even if one is going to have more focus as the main character.
But because the narrative and characters neglect and sideline Marcy, with Marcy only existing to prop up other characters’ arcs rather than the other way around (thereby never being her own protagonist), it just comes across as The story of Anne and Sasha and Oh Yeah Marcy’s there too! Anne and Sasha’s conflict is central, but Anne and Marcy’s? Sasha and Marcy’s? An afterthought or nonexistent.
It really doesn’t help that the entire show sets up the prophecy as requiring all three girls to make up, lest Amphibia itself fall; The world lies on the reconciliation of these three and their teamwork. But in the actual finale, all Sasha and Marcy do is destroy some faceless mooks who appeared out of nowhere, and then lend their powers so Anne can save the day on her own. Sasha and Marcy aren’t really necessary to defeat the Core, which ruins the symbolism of having the prophecy be defied by sowing a rift between the girls.
You hit the nail on the head. Some have said that it's fine for the show not to give Sasha and Marcy that much focus because Anne is the main character. But the thing is Sasha and Marcy are an integral part of Anne's story. It was their influence that shaped Anne into the person she was at the start of the show, and they're the ones who were still there with her at the very end when she had to leave Sprig and Amphibia behind. They're intertwined with Anne in a way that can't be broken without fundamentally altering the story.
But unfortunately that's exactly what season three did, first by basically forgetting Sasha and Marcy even existed in 3A and then hardly mentioning Marcy in 3B and not rescuing her until the penultimate episode of the series. And it's these poor storytelling decisions that drag Amphibia down as a whole, leaving it as just a good cartoon when it could have been truly great.

Heyya! Can I request Marcy wu x gn!reader, where after being transported to amphibia Marcy finds them while out on a mission with the newts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marcy Wu x Reader
A/n: Sorry for the late response (but I'm back on that fanfic grind so it's okay, so sorry) Requests are open!!
Summary: While on mission Marcy finds a person she thought was gone forever. Words: 884 Request: Hell yeah!!
Tumblr media
Leaves crumbled under the pressure of several people walking by, cutting through the hedges and bushes, trying to get the thick sticks of theirs to let go of the tree’s trunk. Sighing, one of the Newts cursed under their breath, the Chief Ranger, Marcy, looked back at them, noticing her doing so, they apologized profusely, and with that they retired to the back of the squad. The Chief Ranger looked puzzled but shook it off, looking at the second leader of the mission; Newtopian Army General – General Yunnan.
The tall, pinkish Newt was talking about something related to their current mission and its goal, but Marcy seemed slightly out of it, before focusing on the conversation again. The sun was setting, leaving a shiny marking on Yunnan’s Newtopian-issued armor, her military insignia beamed with a golden flicker. – Our objective is quite easy, compared to the things I’ve done before; secure a shady place in these woods, featuring some kind of camp full of suspected rebels. That’ll be easy enough. – Yunnan said, proudly thinking about the Sand Wars, lost in the memories of her victories and glory.
The Chief Ranger smiled, since Yunnan is so confident it surely will be the easiest mission they were tasked with yet. Soon, the Newtopian force came to a halt, General looked at her second commander of the mission; Marcy Wu. Looking forward she spoke up. – You, go scout ahead, come back and tell us the situation. – The slender Newt told the girl as she nodded, grinning.
– You got it General. – She gave Yunnan a thumbs up and headed towards the camp, she had about twenty minutes to get there, at one point deciding to climb up, trying to see if there’s anything before her she should be aware of, seeing nothing she decided to get down. The raven haired girl took out her journal, keeping the track of all things new before her, finally, she got to the camp just to discover it ghostly empty, not a single soul in sight, strolling around, she sketched the small tent and things around it, noting to its very human-like architecture.
She saw that the tent’s roof was made of clothing with the passionate colors of ivory paired with platinum, almost gold. Marcy, lost in reverie, wondered deeply about the origin of such august, almost regal piece of material in a rugged campsite in the seclusion of this part of wilderness. Her fascination made her quite oblivious to the surroundings around her, otherwise she would’ve noticed a match of two eyes, mirroring the luster of the setting sun. Slowly, the person emerged, waiting for the opportunity to strike. Only if Marcy had her hood off, you would’ve recognized your childhood friend before attacking.
The blade of your weapon, a small dagger, neatly fit to your palm, dazzled. Showcasing your pupils on its edge. Slowly, step by step, you crept towards the Chief Ranger. Unluckily, you stepped on a branch, the crunch alerting Marcy, she quickly turned around, but to her demise, fell tripping on her cape, and as she looked up to her opponent, a blade made its way to her neck, making her stop in place. Gazing up she saw something she couldn’t believe – her dear friend, one of three lost in Amphibia, you.
A shocked expression made its way on her face, you were different than she remembered you to be. Scars coating your face, once oh so delicate, now vigorous and rugged. She quickly took notice of your now more athletic, muscular build as you towered above.
All she could muster out was a one worded question. –  Y/N..? – You looked at her as your face softened, the edge of your blade slightly lowering before you dropped it. – Is it really you? – She said, as she took off her hood leaving you without a doubt.
You tackled her into a hug as she fell back, both of you laughing and crying tears of joy. You slightly moved, to look down at her and get a full glimpse of your lost flame, both of your faces heated up as you smiled. – Marcy!
Sitting up you gazed at her, she propped herself up on her elbows before going in for another hug, her hands resting on your neck, yours followed soon, missing the contact with her you rested them on her waist, snuggly holding onto her, hiding them under her cape. – I thought I would never see you again.. – You said, breaking the hug and looking at her, your faces just inches away. – Me too…
Everything felt silent, just for a second, as she stared softly at your lips, as you felt her get more and more tense, you decided to take the initiative. Your face burned as you closed the space between you two, closing it with a kiss. Marcy, shocked, soon melted into the kiss, closing her eyes. The two lovers breaking the kiss only when they finally needed to catch their breath, Marcy looked at you in amazement and shock, you assumed she never really kissed before, which was a fair assumption.
– I really missed you.. – She said before, hiding her burning face in your shoulder, as you held her close to you, hoping this moment will never end.

A/N:sorry if I got any of the characters wrong, I was using a combo of wiki/Google translate as I don't speak any of the languages mentioned. Pls let me know if I got any info wrong, i will gladly go in and change it to make it right.
General:
Half Indian and half Chinese.
His and nya's last name is 鄭 (Zheng), but he says it's Smith bc when they where younger he got in the habit of lying about his name so he Didnt have to deal with CPS.
His ma is from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and was a practicing Hindu. Ray is from the 云南 (yunnan) province, and was a practicing theravida Buddhist. Ray is ethnically from the 傣族 (dai people, also spelt Tai in english)
Before his parents dissapearances, they both brought him to their hometowns, and actively taught him both cultures and religions, which he continued to learn about and even teach Nya about after their dissapearances.
When he was 14 he bought a small boat and him and Nya rode it across the costal line, and he promised Nya one day when he was older he'd bring the both of them to their parents hometowns.
He's a Buddhist.
He speaks so many languages.
Like so many
He's fluent in Thai, mandarin and cantonese chinese, telugu, urdu, hindi, Punjabi, arabic and ninjago-ian(idk whatever language ninjago speaks)
Also trying to learn Indonesian.
He also knows yunnan dialect bc his dad would speak in it more often than not
Absorbes info like a sponge
He likes to quilt
He always wears a golden bracelet He got from his moms jewelry box after she left.
Likes to draw but is bad at it, so he colors coloring books
Introvert
He may act all confident, but he really isn't. super insecure
Soooo good with hair
Like, has all the stops. 10 step hair care routine
rivals Zanes cooking skills.
When working out focuses on building rather than lean muscle.
Mother friend
has dragged all of his friends into the water splashing festival.
Fatal flaw is loyalty and kind of hubris (it's conflicting, ik with the insecure and extreme pride, but like- it makes sense in my head. Inferiority/maybe superiority complex.)(it makes sense bc this is such me behavior. Imagine hating yourself but thinking ur the baddest bitch alive)
Likes to stare at fire
If he can't sleep he'll make a small bonfire to stare at and think
insomnia
Chronic cigarette smoker
Romantic:
Hes more show than tell
Def acts of service (me frfr)
Although, he is very cuddly.
Not in public, though. Maybe infront of the other ninja if it was a rough day
Loves to rock you gently from side to side when yall are hug
loves to give you temple kisses
He's very gentle with you, treats you like glass
You wil prolly say ily first, and he'll go;"🧍‍♂️...cool?"
He has mommy and daddy issues, but HEAVY on the mommy issues. Have fun with this hyper-independant fuck who can't accept help without feeling like a failure even though they need it (I'm not projecting you are)
Goes all out for holidays and anniversaries.
Doberman/German Shepard vibes tbh
When it's just you two he doesn't feel the need to fill the air with meaningless chatter, so if he feels safe enough to just share air without talking feel honoured and cherish it bc that means he actually trusts you.
A little rough around the edges, but will remember that thing you said 5years ago on ur first date
Most dates are chill inside and take a nap
But sometimes if he can he takes you on the town or someplace fancy
Also likes to show you his favorite childhood spots

AU in which the calamity trio ends up in Amphibia at like, literally 3 years old or something. Maybe on the same day they met each other, playing in the playground together, finding the music box and vanishing without a trace.
They end up in the same places as they do in canon, but the relationships they form there are much more literally familial.
Hop Pop legally adopt this weird warm-blooded tadpole and raise her as Sprig and Polly's sister. The town was suspicious at first but quickly grows to adore her. She doesn't leave the valley until she's 13, alongside Sprig, to deliver some crops from the farm to a far away acquaitance of Hop Pop's, not knowing this trip would change her life.
Marcy is taken in by Andrias, who never married and has no heir, and she tells him about how mean and scary her parents are back home, so when Andrias asks if she would like to be his daughter and become a princess, she immediately says yes. His advisors are concerned - surely his Majesty doesn't plan to cede the crown to this alien once his reign ends, does he? They shouldn't worry, though. His plans for her are much bigger.
And Sasha... jeez, Grime locks her up in a cell and interrogates her endlessly, terrifying her and making her cry at the mere sight of him. So while one friend gets to live the goblincore cottagecore dream and the other becomes a princess, the other one is kept in a cell for months as a small kid. It's not until she gets terribly sick and nearly dies that Grime goes a little easier on her and gives her a proper room. And it's not until one day that, at age five, she tries to stab him, and he sees a potential warrior in her. He decides to train her, not knowing she'd grow up plotting her revenge: she plans to kill him and take over Toad Tower, becoming strong and powerful so that all the toads that terrorized her as a kid will one day kneel at her feet.
They all think they're the only humans in Amphibia, and they all barely remember Earth at all. Their lives are here. They're not friends. They don't know each other. They may not even remember they were playing with other kids when they were transported here. However, their paths inevitably become intertwined, when word starts to run of another one. Rumor has it that the new captain of the South Toad Tower is neither toad nor frog nor newt, but of a strange species with warm, dry skin, or that the Princess is not a newt, unlike her father, though you wouldn't know if you didn't live in Newtopia to see her wandering the streets. The true encounter happens one time that the Captain herself takes it upon herself to collect taxes from a young traveler, and she freezes for only a second at the sight of her - any longer would show weakness - and takes advantage of the traveler's shock to strip her and her frog brother of all their belongings.
News travel to Newtopia quickly, despite Andrias' best efforts. It's known that the Princess had an knack for getting the information she wanted, and General Yunnan just couldn't keep her mouth shut about her next target: the strange creature that took over Toad Tower and that, in some ways, looks an awful lot like the Princess.

People often say Cass’ reason for identifying as nonbinary is “not understanding gender” and while it’s often a joke, I do think it’s the complete opposite to Cass’ knowledge. (I’m using she/her for canon, this applies however and whichever way you headcanon Cass’ gender identity)
I feel it’s often coming from a place of her not understanding language, but gender is so much more than language. A lot of sociologists and gender theorists would kill for the ability to perfectly understand body language and then travel across (at least) China, Vietnam, and the US observing people in urban and rural environments, in both peaceful and violent situations.
In many ways, her lack of preconceptions about gender or need for language to shape her observances would make her more able to see the reality of gender performance rather than ideals. The idea that women are weak or men are unemotional would be foreign to her.
As a child she’s isolated, but she still trains with the League of Assassins briefly. Unfortunately, the first time she is heavily gendered is as a disguise and a weapon in the most traumatic event in her lift, which undeniably shapes her attitude to femininity as this post covers.
But as she runs, her world suddenly expands to, well, the entire world.
Her gender identity may have come to words and self-expression in America, but the first place she would be able to really observe people is in south China, likely passing through Guangdong and Guangxi over the course of a year or two. That’s a really formative period, and as I personally think Lady Shiva is from south China (specifically Yunnan), is also unintentionally Cass connecting with her heritage.
She’s a homeless and very traumatised nine year old, so obviously her experience would have been overall awful. However, a teenage Cass still strongly believes in the sanctity of life and the capacity for goodness in people, and I have to think that while she’s seen a lot of darkness, she’s seen a lot of goodness too. Cass isn’t always curious about things she doesn’t understand (as with her reading), but she has to have been observant to keep travelling and keep escaping from Cain.
She will have seen the wealthy gamblers of Macau, the street vendors of small-town Vietnam, the pickpockets of Gotham. She will have seen different gender norms across cultures, even if she doesn’t know how each language reflects those norms. She would have to adjust to each new place, and refine her body language reading more generally (like how Americans smile way too much), including gendered readings.
Cass will have seen a million couples, straight and gay. Pairs of women afraid to hold hands but projecting their nervousness on the first date like a signal. Unhappy marriages hidden by false smiles for the neighbours. Elderly couples where the man still walks on the road side of the pavement.
Considering herself an orphan, she will have seen mothers nursing their babies, fathers pushing their daughters on swingsets, sisters yelling at each other one moment and laughing the next.
Watching unobserved, she would see all kinds of women in the city. Groups of women going from club to club in high heels, schoolgirls copying each other’s homework on the train, business women in neat makeup and a purposeful walk.
She will have met other homeless girls like herself. Despite being unable to speak with them she might recognise the guarded set to their eyes, the way they are always poised to run - but they might have a smile for her, and a willingness to share a sheltered spot. They might have cut her hair spiky and short, or taught her to play cat’s cradle.
Unfortunately, she will have seen predatory behaviour, men who leer or talk with deceptively friendly tones to a little girl alone. (I know she’s meant to “discover” men being attracted to her in the comics as a teen but that’s optimistic). When those men approach other girls, she doesn’t hesitate to protect them.
But she would have seen so much joy too - boys playing football and grown men joining in, old men sitting on plastic chairs and observing the street together, gangly teen boys play-fighting.
On the streets, clustered and sometimes hidden, she would have seen people whose clothing and body language doesn’t match their bodies. Before Cass knows the words transgender and drag and gender nonconforming, she knows that these people are at risk for being different - at risk like she might be, if she couldn’t convince herself she only needs her fighting skills to protect herself. She wouldn’t need words to take each person as they look to her, to have an amorphous and wordless idea of performativity.
And then of course, she has Barbara, and Batgirl, and finally language.
So, I think Cass’ gender identity is something she discovers with the background of this huge tapestry of humanity she’s observed over the years. And if she goes “fuck that it makes no sense”, that’s a deeply informed, nuanced Fuck That.
